Five Ways to Stay Active During the Holidays

Staying Healthy During the Holidays

The holidays are a very busy time, and require many of us to contribute our time and energy to shopping for gifts, decorating, spending time with family and loved ones, and various other projects. With all of the hustle and bustle happening, we understand that many of our patients might feel limited in what they can physically accomplish.

Being in good health physically is as important as being emotionally, mentally, and spiritually in good health. At Blake Physical Therapy, we are focused on treatments that contribute to healing our patients’ health.

Below, our Santa Monica physical therapy team offers some of our suggestions that might help you stay reasonably active this holiday season. Read on to learn more!

Our Tips for Staying Active During the Holidays

As Marina Del Rey physical therapists, we are always committed to ensuring our patients feel comfortable. We want to help you find the right balance between healing and addressing your symptoms, while also maintaining a level of physical fitness. Physical therapy does help to improve pain, but there are some studies that might indicate it also helps with boosting mood, and thus one’s emotional well-being.

Here are some suggestions we have for staying active during the winter season:

  • Consider buying gifts made to motivate you for fitness, such as a pedometer or a watch that does double duty as a heart rate monitor or pedometer. Other gift ideas could include a brand new set of workout clothes, or going for a hike, or even purchasing tickets for activities such as ice skating.
  • If you have family or loved ones visiting from out of state, take them out on the town. Show them all the touristy spots—the beach, the mountains, the heart of Hollywood, people watching or celebrity sightseeing, or even visiting a trendy restaurant. Find any excuse to get out of the house and enjoy what the city has to offer.
  • Do your best to keep your stress levels at bay. If you ever feel overwhelmed by the commotion, move around and keep yourself distracted. This may prove to be incredibly useful in clearing your mind and allowing you to enjoy the celebrations.
  • Try hosting a party. Of course, this will depend on how you feel, but you might find that being the host of a party can feel quite rewarding. Knowing that you have shown your guests a good time and everyone is enjoying themselves creates a feeling of warmth and togetherness, and can help to ease troubles away.
  • Always seek support from physical therapy professionals if you are suffering from serious injuries that are hampering your day-to-day. Without the proper attention, an injury can become worse and make it more difficult to get back to your life. We urge you to reach out to a Santa Monica physical therapist right to prevent you from being sidelined for an extended period of time.
